Prepare the area for repair by sanding the edges around the hole to approximately the size of the patch. Wipe clean with a dry tack cloth. Remove the backing from the wall patch and apply a thin coat of joint compound to the metal side of the wall patch. Center the patch over the hole and press it into place. Cover the patch and about 3'' around it with a thin coat of joint compound, making sure to feather the edges. Allow it to dry and then re-apply as needed, lightly sanding between coats (typically 3 coats are needed). Prime and paint for a seamless finish.
